The EU-LAC Foundation holds meetings in Madrid to strengthen cooperation ahead of the EU-CELAC Summit
As part of an institutional mission to Madrid in April, the EU-LAC Foundation held a series of meetings with representatives from governmental, social, and academic institutions. The main objective of this agenda was to strengthen strategic alliances and foster cooperation in preparation for the upcoming Summit between the European Union and CELAC.
During their stay, the EU-LAC Foundation’s delegation held a meeting with Francisco Javier Gassó Matoses, Director-General for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss shared priorities in the bi-regional relationship and to explore avenues for collaboration ahead of the Summit.
The Foundation’s representatives also held a working meeting with Maite Serrano, Director, and Inma Alonso, Political Advocacy Coordinator, from the Spanish Coordinating Committee of Development Organisations. Discussions focused on the role of civil society in strengthening bi-regional cooperation and identified opportunities for collaboration within the framework of the preparatory activities for the Summit.
An institutional visit was also made to the Carolina Foundation, where a meeting was held with its Director, Erika Rodríguez.
In addition, the agenda included an exchange with Charles Powell, Director, and Carlos Malamud, Senior Research Fellow, of the Elcano Royal Institute. These meetings provided an opportunity to share progress in the organisation of the events planned by the EU-LAC Foundation and to discuss potential lines of cooperation.
This series of meetings forms part of the EU-LAC Foundation’s ongoing efforts to promote a strengthened bi-regional strategic partnership and to support the EU-CELAC Summit process. The upcoming meeting of Heads of State and Government represents a key opportunity to renew commitments between the two regions and to reinforce their partnership in a dynamic and challenging global context.
